The benefits of early swimming are numerous and helping your child along the way can be one of the most enjoyable experiences a parent can have. Swimming encourages fun and learning and helps your child to develop confidence and positive self- image.
Children who take part in early swimming programmes are often thought to be happier and healthier. Research has shown that early swimmers perform better on tests measuring social, academic, motor and personality developments.
Who can participate?
We teach children from age 3 and above. We can recommend teachers for babies/ toddlers but we feel that age 3-4 is the ideal age to start a more structured instruction. Most parents feel that when their children have reached a certain level and can swim 3 or 4 strokes, they do not need swimming lessons anymore. However, being passionate about sports, I would say that this is only the start of a long story. If your child loves swimming, you should encourage him or her to pursue this sport further at a more competitive level.
How is a typical lesson structured?
A typical lesson lasts 30 minutes (recommended for the younger students) to 45 minutes. After a warming-up/ introductory activity, we go through the main theme through a few drills e.g. breast-stroke arm pull. We also introduce a contrasting activity such as diving or floating. Finally the lesson will end by 5-10 minutes of games also designed to work on a specific point e.g. diving. We use various type of flotation equipment/ training aids such as noodles, kick board and pull buoys.
When/ where are classes held?
Classes are usually held after school hours (with the exception children not going to school full-time) typically between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays.
